The Executive Committee
The Executive committee made up of parents is an integral part of
our group; in fact as laid out within POR (The Scout Association Policy
of Organisation & Rules) we are not allowed to operate as a group without one.
The Group Executive Committee exists to support the Group Scout
Leader in meeting the responsibilities of their appointment. The
committee is responsible for:
We meet approximately six times a year, usually at The Anchor pub on the corner of Seymour Gardens or at someone’s
house on a weekday evening. The meetings are run with the aid
of an agenda and minutes are taken. However they are informal and very
sociable.
During your child’s time with the Group it is expected that
one parent from each family will serve at least one term of office (a
year) as a parent representative on the Group Executive Committee. The
input of a parent on the committee is invaluable to ensure that the
committee represents the views and ideas of all parents’ families.
The role can be shared between the two of you as fits in best with your family.
The Scout organisation is one that we choose for our children to
belong to – unlike school. All of the leaders give their time to our
children without pay and it is not just for 1½ hours a week. Many
weekends are given up for First Aid training, running activities and
camps to name but a few. The leaders are very committed to our children
and in return they need your support. Without any trustees, the we cannot legally function, which is why it is so important that everybody takes their turn. This year in particular we urgently need members to fill these roles: The scout association provides detailed support for group executive members. If you have not yet served on the committee, please step up - it's your turn!
